Article I: Purpose
The UMM Dance Ensemble is an association of UMM students interested in dance as an opportunity to create and learn new and innovative dances, meet new people, and gain leadership skills. The association provides an opportunity for these people to pool their talents, work together, create dance performances, and sponsor activities which enhance the availability of dance for UMM students.
The UMM Dance Ensemble is committed to the policy that all persons shall have equal access to its programs, facilities, and employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability, veterans status, or sexual orientation, and adheres to all current University of Minnesota equal opportunity and affirmative action policies.
Article II: Membership1.
2. Termination of Membership
a. UMM Dance Ensemble members who violate University rules of conduct will be dismissed from the Ensemble.
b. Those who wish to terminate their membership are encouraged to notify a Dance Ensemble Board member or advisor. Those choosing to leave the Dance Ensemble are welcome to rejoin at a later date.
Article III: Dance Ensemble Board
1. Eligibility
The Dance Ensemble Board is comprised of six members. Any voting member of the UMM Dance Ensemble who has been a member for at least one full semester is eligible to hold a position. Board members are required to participate in at least one dance each semester. They must also be a full time student at UMM for fall and spring semester.
2. Board Members’ Duties and Powers
While each Board member is given special responsibilities, all of the positions are responsible for producing the performances as a unit. To make a decision, four of the six Board members must agree. All Board members must maintain, at a minimum, a 2.0 gpa. All Board members are responsible for casting dancers for each semester’s dance recital and for making rehearsal and other schedules.
3. Elections
Board members will be elected each spring semester, during Preview Night each spring semester. Any voting member of the UMM Dance Ensemble may nominate any other voting member for an open Board position; members may also nominate themselves.
a. All UMM Dance Ensemble members will receive at least two weeks advance notice via the Dance Ensemble list serve of the election date and time.
b. When all nominations for Board positions as defined in the bylaws have been received, a secret ballot will be cast. Each voting member will be allowed one vote per position.
c. The ballots will be counted by a graduating student and the faculty advisor.
d. The candidates receiving the most votes per position will be declared the winner.
e. The term of a Board member begins at the end of spring semester after the final meeting. The old and new Board members will meet to pass on organizational documents and information.
a. Once elected, at Preview Night each spring semester, the new board will shadow the current board to get acquainted to each positions duties and responsibilities.
4. Procedures for Recall or Resignation
Article IV: Faculty/Staff AdvisorThe advisor guides and supports the Board. The advisor is also able to provide choreography according to guidelines set in the Dance Ensemble Bylaws. The advisor acts as a link to the university along with the co-chairs.
Article V: Amendments to the Constitution or Bylaws
1. Any student member of the Dance Ensemble may propose, in writing, an amendment to the Dance Ensemble Constitution or Bylaws to the Board.
2. Dance Ensemble Board members must approve the amendment.
3. Changes to the Constitution will be submitted to Dave Swenson for approval.
This document has been ratified as a substantial amendment of the current Constitution by current members of Dance Ensemble, in accordance with the rules outlined by the current Constitution, and is subsequently submitted to the University of Minnesota, Morris Student Services Committee:

- Joining the Dance Ensemble
- Membership in the UMM Dance Ensemble is open to all students who would like to participate in dance performance, choreography, or other activities of the Dance Ensemble with or without dance experience. Anyone who attends auditions of the Dance Ensemble and chooses to join the group will be considered a member and have their name added to the UMM Dance Ensemble membership list. Only members registered for 6 or more credits will be considered voting members.
- Student organizations may audition 45 seconds of a piece at Choreographer Auditions. However, they are not guaranteed a slot in the show, as Dance Ensemble members will take precedent. The Board may ask student organizations to perform a piece after auditions take place if the Board sees fit to do so. Members in these student organizations must audition at Dancer Auditions if they want to perform in other pieces.

- If a Board member fails to fulfill the duties of the position as defined by bylaws, Dance Ensemble members may vote to remove that person from the Board. At least two-thirds of voting members must be present at the vote, or submit their votes via campus mail or e-mail. The Board member will be removed by a simple majority vote in favor of removal.
- In the event of a Board member’s resignation or recall from a position, an election for that position will be held as soon as possible, following the procedures outlined in Article III, Section 3, a-e.
